Self Growth & Empowerment
"A healthy woman is much like a wolf: chock-full, strong life force, life-giving, territorially aware, loyal, roving. Yet, separation from the wildish nature causes a woman's personality to become meager, thin, ghostly, spectral. We are not meant to be puny with frail hair and inability to leap up, inability to chase, to birth, to create a life. When women's lives are in stasis, or filled with ennui, it is always time for the wildish woman to emerge; it is time for the creating function of the psyche to flood the delta." Clarissa Pinkola Estes

THE REASONS FOR GROWING PAINS
The opportunity for personal growth can be triggered by just about any event in life. We tend to outgrow situations or a certain behaviour, sensing the need to move on. For some it may come in the form of a destructive pattern such as overeating, taking drugs or abusing alcohol. For others it may take on the form of loss – loss of a job, a partner or loved one.
Some of us tend to get stuck and see no way of turning the situation around. A woman with an abusive partner, for example, may find a way out of the relationship but may seek out another partner who is also abusive. Although she feels she has physically broken the abusive chain, mentally and spiritually she has not. Ultimately, it is a conscious decision within us that determines whether we make the change or continue to repeat the same mistakes over and over again.
The first key is to recognize that the pain is there to teach us something. It is the soul calling out for some kind of change from within to take place. Secondly, we need to utilize this pain as a springboard to find something more meaningful in our lives. During our darkest moments, it is difficult to see that something better is waiting for us. However, once we acknowledge that the greatest periods of growth occur during such times, we may even come to welcome the growing pains.
THE MEASUREMENT OF SUCCESS
To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty;
to find the best in others; to leave the world a better place whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
