Clinical studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of Devil's Claw in treating joint conditions like osteo-arthritis, fibrositis, rheumatism and small joint disease, (Lecompte & Costa, 1992) and it has also been scientifically proven to assist in the treatment of lower backache (Chrubasik, 1996). In a study by Brady et al, (1981), serum cholestol and uric acid levels were shown to be reduced after treatment with Devil's Claw.
Symptoms –fatigue, joint stiffness, swelling in the joints, particularly the hands, feet, shoulders and knees.
Treatment-
- A vegetarian diet rich in fruit an vegetables produces significant benefits. Try to detect and eliminate food allergens.
- Exercise
- Try hot and cold compresses or hot paraffin baths for 30 minutes per day.
- Massage may help to manage RA.
- Natural anti-inflammatories such as curcumin and ginger have shown positive results.
- Antioxidants – Vitamin C, Vitamin E
Treatment-
·Avoid the nightshade family of vegetables – potatoes, tomatoes, and egglplant.
·Take antioxidant supplements – Vitamin C, E, A
·Ask your Health Practitioner about Glucosamine sulfate supplements
·Try Bodyworks – massage and physiotherapy
·Reduce pain with topically applied menthol or capsaicin.
·Herbs – Yucca, Devils claw, alfalfa
