Types
1. Type I – Occurs when the immune system destroys insulin producing cells. The person is insulin dependent, requiring daily injections.
2. Type II - This is the most common type, which occurs more often in adults over 55 years of age who are overweight.
Blood tests
and dietary changes will control Type II.
3. Gestational Diabetes – Is discovered during pregnancy and disappears after the baby is born. There is a risk of developing Type II diabetes later in life once a woman has had GD.
