Menopause
"One of the many things nobody ever tells you about middle age is that it's such a nice change from being young."
Dorothy Canfield Fisher
Menopause, for most women, occurs in the second part of life, around the age of 50. It is characterized by less production of estrogen and progesterone, causing cessation of the menstrual cycle for at least 12 months. Symptoms include hot flashes, sweating, vaginal dryness, headaches, forgetfulness, cold hands and feet, bladder infections, difficulty breathing, irritability and dizziness.
This time in your life is an opportunity for resolution; a time to soul search and identify unfinished business or heal old wounds. This psychological and spiritual cleansing brings newfound peace and wellness.
Treatment
Nutrition – increase soy, fennel, celery, nuts and seeds which contain phytoestrogens. Reduce processed foods, alcohol, caffeine, fats and sugars. Increase vegetable and fruit consumption.
Antioxidants– Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E
Supplements – Vitamin B complex, Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc
Herbs – Licorice, ginseng, anise, wild yam, ginkgo biloba, dong quai, chasteberry, squaw vine, and particularly
black cohosh,

* A word of caution regarding Synthetic HRT – there is a small risk of cancer, gallstone production, blood clotting, depression, liver disorders, headaches, and fibroid development associated with Synthetic HRT (not the natural hormone replacements made from Wild Yam or Soy), so consult with your Health Care Provider to find out what treatment is most suitable to your needs.
