Urinary Tract Infection

Urinary tract infection causes burning or painful urination, a need to urinate frequently and abdominal pain. As antibiotics may actually promote the recurrence of this type of infection, it is best to try to use natural therapies to prevent and treat them.

Treatment

- Cranberry juice may relieve the symptoms and reduce the need for antibiotics but use caution as excessive amounts may cause cramping and diarrhea. Try 250 ml. 3 times a day with meals for 5 – 10 days.

- Increase fluids – drink at least 2 litres of water per day

- Avoid processed foods and increase bio-flavinoids such as berries and citrus fruit.

- Urinate after intercourse

- Supplement – Vitamin C, Vitamin A

- Herbs – golden seal, uva ursi, cranberry uva ursi (except during pregnancy)
